About
Udi Shafran is a self-taught glass artist based in Tel Aviv. His practice brings together glassblowing, kiln casting, fusing, sculpting, and cold working, moving between different processes to explore the expressive possibilities of glass.
Drawn to the material’s contrasting qualities—transparency and opacity, fragility and strength, control and unpredictability—Udi often works with familiar forms drawn from nature and everyday life. His works explore the relationship between human presence and the natural world, as well as themes of memory, vulnerability, transformation, and repair.
Process is an integral part of his practice. Unexpected material events are not necessarily treated as failures, but can become part of the finished work, revealing possibilities that emerge through making itself. Udi has maintained his own studio since 2021 and has developed his practice through ongoing study with glass artists in Israel and internationally.
